Being a notary is a great way either to make a living or to get an extra income stream for emergencies and luxuries. However, you do have to keep up on some things as a notary, and one of those things is making sure you renew your notary license before it expires. 

Notary licenses are usually valid for four years from issue and can be renewed up to three months before expiration. Florida Notary Renewal isn’t too hard, but while the requirements will vary from state to state, here are the answers to a few questions you may have.

Do I Need to Take Training?

The answer to this one really depends on your state. Less than half of the states require training for first-time applicants, and only some of those demand that renewing notaries take courses. You’re certainly encouraged to take courses if you want to, though. Many sites offer online training for reasonable prices and it doesn’t take too long to complete.

How Long Does Renewal Take?

Depending on your state and the current volume of applicants, notary license renewal can take anything between a couple of weeks to six months or more. So make sure you start thinking about renewal in plenty of time to get your application in and back before expiration. If it doesn’t get back before your license expires, it isn’t the end of the world. You just won’t be able to do any notarizing until you get the renewal.

Do I Need a New Bond?

The short answer is yes. If your state requires a surety bond, you will need to buy a new one to cover your new commission. You’re not required to have notary insurance, but it’s a good idea to have it in case you make any mistakes you could be held liable for.
